For the first time in her career Andrea Petkovic has reached the third round of a Grand Slam tournament. In a very close match Andrea defeated American Bethanie Mattek-Sands (WTA 76) 3:6; 6:3; 7:5. In the third set she had to save three matchballs when Mattek-Sands led 5:4. “It was very tough. She was right there from the beginning and I needed about half an hour to get used to her style of playing”, said Andrea afterwards. “In the third set I was very self-confident. That has made the difference.”

In the third round Andrea competes against Shuai Peng of China, who ended the hopes of 9th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland) in the second round.
