Pervak upsets Andrea

Andrea Petkovic has missed to reach the round of sixteen at the All England Championships at Wimbledon. The 23-year-old German lost 4-6, 6-7 (2) to Ksenia Pervak (RUS | WTA 89) in the third round.

Andrea struggled right from the start when Pervak broke Petko's first service game. The Russian subsequently concentrated on avoiding unforced errors, did not leave Andrea any breakballs and took away the first set after 32 minutes.

In the second set Andrea tried to turn things around by approaching the net and throwing in some slices now and then. But Pervak stuck to her game and broke Andrea's serve when the score was 2-2. Andrea was able to come back, take Pervak's serve and equalise to 4-4. Petko missed the big chance to win the second set when she gave away two setballs leading 6-5. In the following Tie-Break, Pervak showed more confidence and converted the first of her four matchballs.

Andrea still plays Doubles at Wimbledon. Together with Ana Ivanovic (SRB) she advanced to the second round beating Kai-Chen Chang (TPE)/Jill Craybas (USA) 6-1, 6-2. She will also compete in the Mixed Doubles with Feliciano Lopez (ESP).

Tough win over Dubois

Andrea Petkovic has advanced to the third round of the All England Championships at Wimbledon. The German Fed-Cup-Player beat Stephanie Dubois (CAN | WTA 122) 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in a close three-setter.

In the beginning Dubois withstood Andrea's pace until the score was 2-2. Then Petko broke the Canadian's serve two times and gained a 5-2 lead. Andrea subsequently missed to convert one of three set balls and had to give away her serve. But with a direct re-break Andrea finally closed out the first set.

In the second set it was Dubois who first landed a break when the score was 2-2 again, two consecutive breaks followed. Holding her serve afterwards, the world's number 122 won the second set, forcing Andrea into a decicive third one.

Petko shifted up a gear and quickly took a 5-0 lead. When Andrea was serving for the match, Dubois was able to break the German's serve once more and close the gap a little. But Andrea stuck to her game and won the match with a forehand-winner.

In the third round Andrea will face Ksenia Pervak (RUS | WTA 89). It will be the first encounter between the two players.
